Maine Border Patrol Agent Returns Home After Defeating Corona Virus

HOULTON, ME - After a long battle with the coronavirus, U.S. Border Patrol agent Kostas Papadopoulos was finally discharged from the hospital and was welcomed back home by Border Patrol agents and local law enforcement.

While Papadopoulos has been away from home before, in his near 12 years of service in the Border Patrol, this stint was one of the longer ones. Papadopoulos, who grew up in the Brunswick area, was temporarily detailed to the southwest border in support of operations in response to the migrant surge. While serving at the Rio Grande Valley Central Processing Center, Papadopoulos became ill with COVID-19. He was admitted to Valley Baptist Hospital in Harlingen, Texas on March 27, and spent the next several months being transferred from hospital to hospital, finally making his way back to Maine to be closer to his family.

Today, Papadopoulos is finally able to return home to his wife and three children. Acting Patrol Agent in Charge of the Houlton Station, Jodi Williams, appreciates the support shown by Houlton Sector Agents to Papadopoulos and his family. 'During this difficult time Kostas has managed to stay in the fight and persevere. We are all extremely proud of him and are overjoyed that he is finally home with his family.'

The procession through town is part of this support, letting him and his family know that the Border Patrol is behind them throughout the rest of his recovery at home.
