The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran was called to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran was called to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs this morning, April 16th. The meeting with the Director General of Foreign Policy made it possible to reiterate

vehement and categorical condemnation of the recent attack carried out against the State of Israel. The Portuguese Government expressed its deep concern about the escalation of conflict in the region, calling for maximum containment.

The meeting also allowed renewing the demand for the immediate release of the MSC Aries ship, arrested in the Strait of Hormuz, in light of Portugal's obligations as a Pavilion State. The release of the crew, which must be adequately treated while the ship remains detained, was also demanded, since the explanations so far provided were found inconsistent.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will await the results of this formal démarche and will evaluate further steps accordingly.
