Brussels, Belgium29 Jun 2022

CFA Institute, the global association of investment professionals, announces today its support for the 9th edition of the Global Prize for Ethics & Trust in Finance for a Sustainable Future, organized by Observatoire de la Finance, along with co-supporters Euroclear, SWIFT and SWIFT Institute, Pictet Group, ACCA and OECD.

The USD 20,000 Prize, which was launched earlier this month, invites professionals and academics under 35 years of age to submit a 5000-word essay with rigorous arguments and clear conclusions for review by a distinguished international jury. The deadline for submission is 29 May 2023.

The jury of expertsin ethics and finance is co-chaired by Josina Kamerling, Head of Regulatory Outreach EMEA at CFA Institute, and Prof. Paul H. Dembinski, Director of the Observatoire de la Finance (Geneva based). The mission of the competition is to promote greater awareness among young people globally of the importance of strengthening ethics and integrity in the finance sector, and to accelerate the transition to a sustainable financial system. Last year, the 8th edition of the Prize attracted over 450 individuals from more than 90 countries to express an interest in submitting a paper for the competition.

Josina Kamerlingcomments: "At the core of this initiative is the opportunity for young people to reflect on the role of ethics to help shape a more sustainable and responsible financial system for the future. Such intellectual effort is all the more necessary and urgent at this time, given the expanding role of the financial sector in private and public affairs and the mounting challenge of climate change and new technologies in finance. Our future leaders hold the key to ensuring the financial sector continues to be grounded in a strong sense of purpose, integrity and ethical behavior, and CFA Institute is proud to support this Prize. We know well that ethics and trust are the necessary tools which can help refocus financial activities to benefit society as a whole."

Prof. Paul H. Dembinskicomments: "We believe that the issues of ethics and trust in finance have a pivotal role to play in affecting a positive change in an uncertain world. Across society, we still have a great deal both to discover and to resolve in how we move forward towards greater sustainability, and progress will require a variety of contributions. We look forward to exploring bright new ideas from a diverse group of brilliant young people. I'm delighted to be launching the 9th edition of the Prize."
