Andrea Berloff & John Gatins Form Creative Partnership With Netflix →

Bios:

ANDREA BERLOFF

Andrea Berloff is an Academy Award-nominated filmmaker based in Los Angeles. Previous films include THE KITCHEN, which she wrote and directed, was released by Warner Bros. in 2019. As a screenwriter, Andrea co-wrote the script for the hit NWA biopic STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON, which was nominated for Producers Guild, Screen Actors Guild, Writers Guild and Critics Choice Awards and was named one of the ten best films of 2015 by the American Film Institute. For her script, Berloff was nominated for an Academy Award and a WGA Award for Best Original Screenplay.

Additional credits include: WORLD TRADE CENTER, which was directed by Oliver Stone and released in 2006 by Paramount, as well as SLEEPLESS NIGHT, which was released in 2016 by Open Road. She also co-wrote the film BLOOD FATHER, which was directed by Jean-Francois Richet. She co-wrote the soon-to-be-released THE MOTHER starring Jennifer Lopez for Netflix. She is currently partnered with John Gatins under a filmmaking overall deal at Netflix. She is passionate about mentoring young filmmakers and so has served as an advisor to the WGA, Universal Emerging Writers Program, the Blacklist, the Sundance Institute and Women in Film. She is a previous board member of the WGA and currently sits on the board of the Franco American Cultural Fund as well as the Executive Committee of the Writers Branch of the Academy of Motion Pictures.

JOHN GATINS

John Gatins grew up in New York and attended Vassar College, graduating in 1990 as a Drama major. Gatins then moved to Los Angeles, where he wrote the screenplay for SUMMER CATCH (directed by Mike Tollin) and HARD BALL (directed by Brian Robbins). He created and Executive Produced the Tollin/Robbins Warner Brothers pilot LEARNING CURVE and co-wrote the basketball drama COACH CARTER starring Samuel L. Jackson. Gatins made his directorial debut with his own screenplay, DREAMER starring Dakota Fanning and Kurt Russell. He also wrote REAL STEEL starring Hugh Jackman, Evageline Lilly and Anthony Mackie. He also served as executive producer on Brian Robbins' comedy READY TO RUMBLE. Gatins was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for the film FLIGHT. He produced NEED FOR SPEED for Dreamworks. Most recently, Gatins wrote POWER RANGERS . He is currently co-writing WAR OF 84 with his partner Andrea Berloff for Netflix.
