Members of RA NA Friendship Group Armenia-USA continue their meetings in Washington

The members of the RA NA Friendship Group Armenia-USA continue the series of their meetings in Washington with the representatives of the state structures, as well as the authoritative analytical centers.

In particular, the Head of the Friendship Group, the Head of the NA Civil Contract Faction Hayk Konjoryan, the Chair of the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Sargis Khandanyan, the deputies of the Civil Contract Faction Vahagn Aleksanyan, Hripsime Grigoryan, and the deputy of Armenia Faction Irina Gasparyan and the RA Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the USA Lilit Makunts met with the member of the US Senate Chris Van Hollen.

The members of the delegation met with the President of the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) Damon Wilson, the Executive Director of Foreign Policy of the American Research Brookings Institution, the Deputy President of Europe and Russia at the U.S. Institute of Peace Ambassador William Taylor, as well as the President of the Middle East Institute in Washington Paul Salem.

During the meetings the members of the RA delegation presented that on May 11 the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan, violation ceasefire, opened fire with artillery and mortar means to the Armenian positions of Sotk. The Armenian MPs called on their U.S. colleagues to impose pressures on Azerbaijan and prevent the further escalation.

The Armenian parliamentarians introduced the fact of the illegal blockade of the Lachin Corridor and the installment of the checkpoint.

The ongoing peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan and existing regional challenges were discussed. Reference was also made to the details of normalization process of the relations between Armenia and Turkey.

The members of the parliamentary delegation presented to the U.S. colleagues the procedure of the ongoing democratic reforms in Armenia. The sides reaffirmed the high level of the strategic dialogue existing between the Republic of Armenia and the USA.
