WINTER STORM RECOVERY: Power Outages & Water Alerts (Boil Water Notice in Rough Hollow)

POWER OUTAGES

Austin Energy crews made progress overnight. There are still just under 400 without power (mainly in the Cardinal Hills area) in Lakeway. An improvement from about 2,500 yesterday. Crews will continue repairs through weekend. There are also still around 100 PEC customers without power. For motorists, treat any intersection without power as a 4-way stop. Please continue to report outages directly to Austin Energy or PEC, depending on your provider. You can call Austin Energy at 512-322-9100 or Text OUT to 287846; or PEC at 888-883-3379 or by texting "Outage" to 25022 depending on your provider.

Latest Update from Austin Energy as of 9 AM Saturday:

"There are about 400 lineworkers, tree trimmers and other personnel from Austin Energy and neighboring utilities working around the clock to get customers back online. Thank you for your patience as our crews work to safely restore power as quickly as possible."

Austin Energy power crews still don't have an estimation on when power will be fully restored due to the complexity of each line or poll that is down. We understand the frustration. Crews are working each location where they can and we are hopeful power will be restored to remaining residents as soon as possible. If you do not have power, be sure to switch off all appliances (to help with the load when power is restored). If your neighbors have lights on, be sure to check your breaker box. If you're still without power, put candle holders on a sturdy, uncluttered surface and blow them out before you leave the room. Use portable generators outdoors in well-ventilated areas at least 20 feet from all doors, windows and vent openings. Before using a fireplace, open the damper for proper ventilation. When finished, leave the damper open until the fire is completely extinguished to prevent smoke and gases generated by embers from entering the home. Also, keep anything that can burn at least three free away from space heaters or fireplaces.

Boil Water Notice for MUDS 11 (non-Lakeway), 12, 13

A Boil Water Notice will be in effect for many Rough Hollow residents likely through Sunday. It affects Travis County MUDS 12 and 13, as well as Non-Lakeway portions of Travis County MUD 11. Here is the latest update from Crossroads Utility in regards to the issue: "Travis County MUDs 12, 13 and part of MUD 11 are currently experiencing a water outage or low pressures. The West Travis County P.U.A. is the wholesale provider of water to these Districts. They have lost power to their supply facilities. Water service will be resumed once their plant is back in operation. When water service is restored, customers will be asked to boil all water used for eating and drinking until notified. Residents will be contacted through phone calls and texts when the test come back and it is ok to resume normal use."

BOIL WATER GUIDANCE:

To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes. The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes. In lieu of boiling, individuals may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source for drinking water or human consumption purposes. When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the public water system officials will notify customers that the water is safe for drinking water or human consumption purposes.

LAKEWAY MUD WATER SUPPLY

As a precautionary measure, LMUD is asking customers to do their best to conserve water while the surrounding area's power is restored. LMUD customers ARE NOT under a boil water notice. If you have questions, please contact them by phone at (512) 261-6222.

BOTTLED WATER SUPPLY

If you need bottled water due to power failure or a boil water notice, the Lakeway Police Department will have volunteers helping distribute water at the police department located at 1941 Lohmans Crossing Road until 5 p.m. Saturday. If you are not able to get to the police department and are still in need of bottled water, pleae email us at [email protected].
