Thomas Schneider, Chief Executive of the Association of Pacific Rim Universities, visits NJU

On April 24th, Professor Thomas Schneider, Chief Executive of the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU), along with his delegation, visited Nanjing University. They were welcomed by Tan Zhemin, President of Nanjing University and Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences at the Xianlin Campus. Both parties engaged in discussions on further deepening cooperation and addressing global issues of mutual concern. The meeting was chaired by Vice President Lu Yanqing.

Tan Zhemin extended a warm welcome to Professor Schneider and his delegation, expressing gratitude for APRU's longstanding support to Nanjing University. He reviewed the cooperation between Nanjing University and APRU, highlighting the mutual benefits, and briefly introduced Nanjing University's development and achievements. He emphasized Nanjing University's active engagement in international exchanges and cooperation in global issues such as life and health, climate change, artificial intelligence, and sustainable development, contributing wisdom to solving common challenges faced by humanity. He expressed hope for further substantive cooperation with APRU in talent cultivation, scientific research, and other areas to make more contributions.

Professor Schneider thanked Nanjing University for its warm reception and support for APRU. He acknowledged Nanjing University's outstanding reputation and international achievements in education, emphasizing its importance as a member of APRU. He introduced his work and development vision since assuming the position of APRU Secretary-General and analyzed the challenges that APRU and universities might face in the future. He looked forward to better cooperation between the two sides to help APRU better serve its member institutions. He welcomed Nanjing University's participation in this year's Annual Presidents' Meeting of the alliance and looked forward to more cooperation with Nanjing University in fields such as artificial intelligence and higher education development.

Both sides discussed the prospects of cooperation enthusiastically, exploring how APRU, as an international university organization, can assist member universities in their development and collaborate to provide solutions to common challenges facing humanity.
