Prague bourse firms for 6th week in row, PX index up 2.2 pct

Prague, April 12 (CTK) - The Prague Stock Exchange (BCPP) strengthened for the sixth week in a row, its headline PX index rising by 2.2 percent to 1,559 points over the past week, its highest closing level since June 20, 2008, according to data from the bourse's website.

Power utility CEZ grew the most, while pharmacy chain Pilulka saw the steepest drop.

In the previous week, the PX index gained 0.7 percent.

"The Prague Stock Exchange rose on four out of five trading days last week, with a decline only on Thursday. At the same time, it has been growing for the sixth week in a row," said Wood & Company broker Vladimir Vavra.

CEZ was the most successful title of the week, as it firmed by 5.75 percent to Kc883 per share, Vavra noted.

Banking title Komercni banka followed, gaining 2.71 percent to Kc871. Komercni banka shares have been growing for five weeks in a row.

Austrian bank Erste has been even more successful in this regard. Its shares have been appreciating for six consecutive weeks, adding 2.09 percent to Kc1,076.50 apiece over the past week alone.

Solar power plant builder Photon Energy increased by 1.78 percent to Kc45.80, ending its previous nine-week decline.

Arms maker Colt also fared well, rising by 1.64 percent to Kc618. Moneta Money Bank added 0.78 percent to Kc103.60, and beverage maker Kofola grew by 0.74 percent to Kc273.

In contrast, Pilulka fell by 2.44 percent to Kc200.

Insurer VIG shares, which had been rising for the previous eight weeks, now weakened by 0.81 percent to Kc731 apiece.

Losers also included tobacco company Philip Morris, which erased 0.13 percent to Kc15,680.
