Date:
March 26, 2024

Gunnison, Colo. - Interested parties are welcome to join a public forum hosted by the National Park Service staff to discuss winter boating opportunities on Blue Mesa Reservoir at Curecanti National Recreation Area. The public forum will be held on Monday, April 8, 2024, from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at the Fred Field Event Center, located at 275 South Spruce Street in Gunnison. An additional public forum will be held on Monday, April 15, from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm the Montrose Police Department Community Room, located at 434 S. First St. in Montrose.

Park staff would like to engage the public on topics regarding winter boating at Curecanti. Topics to be discussed include the boat inspection season, permissible fishing options when the inspection stations are closed, and electric trolling motors. Bring your concerns and listening skills.

Curecanti National Recreation area offers year-round recreational opportunities from hiking and camping to boating and fishing. Motorized boating opportunities typically occur spring through fall when waters are ice-free. While most hand-powered watercraft can access reservoir waters year-round, trailered watercraft must be inspected and launched from an open boat ramp.

Aquatic invasive species (AIS) decontamination operations typically run from April to December. Decontamination is critical to prevent invasive species infestation for the health of the reservoir and dam operations and to ensure high quality fishing opportunities. AIS inspection stations work with the recreating public to protect resources for this and future generations.
