DALLAS - Superintendent Hinojosa shared a message on mental health support, highlighting the importance of everyone having strong personal support networks in to call on in time of crisis. Dr. Hinojosa also advised district families to reach out to their school counselors or the district's mental health department if they need help.

Dallas ISD needs input from the community
Dallas ISD is constantly seeking community input to guide our work and improve our practices. Parents, students and community members are reminded of an opportunity to provide their input on two important topics at 6 p.m. tomorrow, May 18, by joining the following virtual conversations:

  • A TeleTown Hall regarding the district's 2021-2022 budget and allocation of potential additional federal dollars to address student learning loss and COVID-19 recovery. Click here to join the Tele Town Hall (Registration will close three hours before the event).
  • Discussion on how to establish restorative discipline practices in our schools. Click here to join the webinar.

Changes to vaccination buses schedule
Due to the threat of potential storms in the area, Dallas County will close the Fair Park vaccination site tomorrow, Tuesday, May 18. For this reason, the students who were assigned to receive their COVID-19 vaccines tomorrow will be rescheduled to Wednesday, May 19.Super Parent Academy will help parents navigate challenges related to the pandemic
Over the past year, Dallas ISD parents have faced many challenges and changes in the ways students communicate and interact in the classroom. To help address the challenges, on Wednesday, May 19, the district's Special Education Department will host a Super Parent Academy. At the event, parents will receive insights, information and tips to help address learning gaps and promote mental health awareness and self-care practices.

Dallas ISD schools shine ahead of robotics competitions
Twenty-four teams from 13 Dallas ISD schools will compete in the VEX Robotics World Championship, which will be celebrated virtually from May 24-29, showing how Dallas ISD's competitive robotics program continues to pique students' interest in STEM. Additionally, 14 FIRST LEGO League teams advanced to the North Texas Regional Championship and one team, the Woodrow Wilson High School's RoboCats, made it to the Texas Cup, the only in-person UIL robotics championship for 2021.

Dr. Frederick D. Haynes III Global Prep staff will invite new students to enroll
To get to know families in their new school's attendance area, the founding staff of the Dr. Frederick D. Haynes III Global Prep at Paul Quinn College will conduct a recruitment walk at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 22. Volunteers will visit homes to talk with families and provide enrollment information with the goal of attracting 6th and 7th graders to enroll in the new school for the 2021-2022 school year.
