On March 28, 2024, Oracle Academy, in partnership with Global Peace Foundation Kenya, hosted a Transforming Education bootcamp for tertiary educators. The hybrid event took place at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology (JKUAT) in Juja, Kenya. The hybrid bootcamp aimed to equip educators with the knowledge and skills necessary to enhance their teaching practices and empower students for success in the digital age. Throughout the day, attendees participated in a series of interactive sessions.

Addressing the forum, Daniel Juma Omondi, Executive Director, Global Peace Foundation Kenya, extended gratitude to all the stakeholders for their involvement in bringing the bootcamp to fruition. "The training is a testament to our commitment to the Global Peace Foundation's Transforming Education in the Global South Toward 2050 Campaign," he remarked. "Our goal is to cultivate holistic educators and students, foster moral and innovative leadership, and establish exemplary institutions."

One of the key topics covered during the bootcamp was the Oracle Academy Cloud Program, facilitated by William McCrae, Principal Instructor, Oracle Academy, EMEA. Educators learned about the program's offerings and how they could incorporate cloud technologies into their curriculum to better prepare students for careers in the tech industry. McCrae concluded his presentation with a session on the Oracle Academy data science curriculum. Educators were introduced to the curriculum's modules and resources designed to teach students essential data science skills, including big data, data analysis, artificial intelligence, and machine learning.

Benjamin Tua, Oracle's Senior Technical Consultant, Data Science & Analytics, facilitated the second session on Oracle Live Labs, which provides hands-on experience with Oracle tools and technologies in a virtual environment to run a wide variety of labs and workshops. The overview highlighted the benefits of incorporating live labs into teaching to facilitate experiential learning and skills development leveraging the free Oracle Academy Cloud Program.

Another highlight of the bootcamp was the third session on Analytics & Machine Learning, featuring a live lab demo with Red Bull Racing facilitated by Tua. Educators were treated to a firsthand look at how data analytics and machine learning are used in the context of professional sports, demonstrating real-world applications of these technologies.

Finally, the bootcamp concluded with a presentation by Lorna Juma, Oracle Academy Program Manager, Eastern Africa, on Oracle Academy's free teaching and learning resources. Oracle Academy offers educators free technology resources, including curriculum, learning resources, Oracle Cloud technologies, Oracle APEX, a wide range of software, support, professional development options, and professional certification resources.

Overall, the Transforming Education Bootcamp provided educators with valuable insights, practical skills, and resources to enhance their teaching practices and prepare students for success in an increasingly digital world. Oracle Academy supports educational institutions in their journeys by providing educators with teaching and learning resources that make technology engaging and accessible.
