Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kanaani has responded to the repetition of a unilateral claim made by Kuwait about the Arash gas field during the visit of Kuwait's emir to Egypt.

Kanaani rejected the claim as unfounded, unilateral and regrettable.

He stressed Iran's right to the joint gas field based on historical records and past negotiations between the two sides.

Kanaani said just as always, Iran invites the Kuwaiti side to work toward a lasting agreement based on friendly cooperation and mutual interests.

Kanaani noted that issuing repeated statements and making unilateral claims will not create any rights for the Kuwaiti government from a legal point of view, and Iran advises the Kuwaiti officials to refrain from resorting to fruitless political and media methods in connection with the legal and technical issue of the Arash gas field.

Kanaani stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran always monitors regional interactions while believing in the principle of goodwill.

He added that Tehran asks third sides to take steps towards the objective realization of this principle and the promotion of good ties and cooperation.
