House Clears Crucial Katko, Gimenez, Garbarino Efforts to Secure Homeland
WASHINGTON, DC - Today the House of Representatives passed several bipartisan Committee on Homeland Security bills to keep travelers safe and address shortfalls in DHS Trusted Traveler Programs, enhance transportation infrastructure resilience, and strengthen critical information sharing on terrorist capabilities related to chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) materials.
'DHS Trusted Traveler Programs are key to making screening procedures more efficient for both pre-vetted travelers and security personnel while keeping our nation's airports safe. However, as the lead Republican on the House Homeland Security Committee, I recognize there's more to be done to enhance the long-term effectiveness of these programs. I remain committed to making all necessary fixes and this legislation is an essential first step,' said Ranking Member Katko.

'H.R. 397 ensures the Office of Intelligence and Analysis at Homeland Security remains focused on ensuring these dangerous individuals never get ahold of these weapons and continue to communicate effectively threats to all levels of government. 'Whether it's bus systems, ferries, or passenger rail, the Transit Security Grant Program provides needed funds to transit agencies to protect critical surface transportation infrastructure and the traveling public from acts of terrorism,' said Rep. Garbarino. 'I'm proud to lead this effort to provide flexibility to these transportation security assistance grants, which will ultimately bolster our critical transportation infrastructure's ability to thwart terrorism and future attacks.
