Hazard reduction burn planned for the Coffs Coast

Acting Fire Protection Manager - North Coast Steve Pickering said the prescribed hazard reduction burn would be staged across 180-hectares of bushland.

"The plan is to burn plantation windrows within the forest broadly located on the ridges west of Plum Pudding Road," Steve said.

"Weather permitting, Forestry Corporation plans to undertake burning when conditions are suitable over the next three to four weeks.

"If this timing is unsuitable due to weather or other reasons, burns will be rescheduled in the next available weather opportunity.

"The area in question will be burnt as part of Forestry Corporation NSW's re-establishment of harvested eucalypt plantations.

"Burning is primarily to reduce the fuel loads in plantation areas in an effort to minimise the risk of wildfire within our estate," he said.

The hazard reduction burn will only be undertaken during conditions of appropriate fire danger.

Adequate firefighting resources will be on site to ensure the safe containment of fire.

This burn will be planned to minimise any temporary effects this may have on the local environment.

Areas of Conglomerate State Forest covered by hazard reduction burning operations will be closed to the public for safety reasons.

Road closure signs will be posted at all road entrances to the burn area.
