Charleston Boulevard/Maryland Parkway Intersection Closure
May 22-26 For Work On Storm Drain Project

Business Access Only On Charleston; No Access Through Intersection On Maryland Parkway

The Charleston Maryland Storm Drain Project roadwork that began in October 2021 continues to work westward and now will require a temporary closure of the Charleston Boulevard/Maryland Parkway intersection May 22-26 for installation of storm drain in the intersection. Beginning Monday, May 22, at 5 a.m., the intersection will be closed to through traffic. Lane use and travel will be provided for business access only between 11th and 15th streets. North- and southbound traffic on Maryland Parkway will be detoured around the intersection. Marathon work in the intersection will continue through Friday, May 26, at 5 p.m., after which normal traffic operations will resume. Motorists should expect delays and allow extra time for travelling in the area. Las Vegas Boulevard and Eastern Avenue are alternate north/south routes to avoid the marathon work at Maryland Parkway and Charleston May 22-26. Sahara Avenue is recommended for an alternate east/west route during the duration of the construction.

This $51.5 million project will install more than 10,000 feet of new, reinforced-concrete box, varying in size from 6 feet by 5 feet to 24 feet by 6 feet, within Charleston Boulevard from Fremont Street to Maryland Parkway. Additional storm drain, water supply and sewer improvements will be made through the corridor, as well as on adjacent side streets, including Fremont Street, Maryland Parkway and 13th Street. The project affects sections of several streets in Ward 3 and Ward 5 (see map) and is expected to be complete by January 2024.

This project is part of the Clark County Regional Flood Control District's master-planned facilities intended to alleviate the heavy flow of storm water that flowed down the street surface of Charleston Boulevard in the past.

Las Vegas Paving is the contractor and the city of Las Vegas Department of Public Works is managing the project. The project is funded by the Clark County Regional Flood Control District and the Las Vegas Valley Water District. Residents with concerns or questions should call 702-405-6822.
