Ball State’s David Owsley Museum of Art to Host Performance by the Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra

The David Owsley Museum of Art (DOMA) at Ball State University will bring music related to the current exhibition Beyond the Medici: The Haukohl Family Collection to Muncie at 7:30 p.m. on March 28 at the University's Sursa Performance Hall. "Music at the House of the Medici" will feature the Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra (IBO) and celebrate the sounds of Florence, Italy, in the 17th and early 18th centuries.

"I invite everyone to see the gorgeous exhibition of Florentine Baroque art in conjunction with a rich performance of European Baroque music," said Dr. Robert G. La France, director of the David Owsley Museum of Art. "Hosting the IBO in Muncie is a major coup. In addition, the concert is more accessible than ever. Tickets are highly discounted for the general public, and Ball State student tickets are free."

The museum will remain open from 5-7 p.m. on March 28 so visitors can enjoy a free public reception and view the exhibition prior to the 7:30 p.m. performance at Sursa Hall. A pre-concert chat by Dr. Murray Steib, professor of music history at Ball State, begins at 6:45 p.m. in Sursa Hall. Beyond the Medici and "Music at the House of the Medici" are made possible by Ball State's Arts Alive Series, presented by the University's College of Fine Arts.

DOMA is located at 2021 W. Riverside Ave., in Ball State's Fine Arts Building. Sursa Hall is in the University's Music Instruction Building, which is located on the corner of McKinley and Riverside Avenues, across from Emens Auditorium.

Unless noted otherwise for special events, the museum is open to the public 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on Tuesdays through Fridays, and 1:30-4:30 p.m. on Saturdays. There is no admission fee. Visit DOMA's website for more information and details on additional programs related to the Spring exhibition.
