Fall Mosaic Now Available

Happy Anniversary, La Palma! October 26, 2022, marks the City's 67th Anniversary. Originally incorporated in 1955 as Dairyland, the City was comprised of 18 dairies dotting an area of 1.76 square miles and looked nothing like it does today.

As the pandemic restrictions have become more relaxed, La Palma's community events came back stronger than ever! On April 30th, the City hosted its first Festival of Nations. Over 5,000 people visited the Festival in the Park, which was packed with fun attractions for the whole family. Given the event's great success, you can expect to see it back next spring.

Beginning in 2024, La Palma voters will vote for one City Council Member who lives in their district. This will replace the current system of at-large citywide elections in which voters can vote for all City Council Members. Consequently, the Council is holding a series of public hearings at the Regular City Council meetings (first Tuesday of the month) in anticipation of approving a new district map at the September 6, 2022, City Council meeting. Once adopted, the map will be redrawn in conjunction with the National Census every ten years. More information is available on page 3 and the City's webpage at drawlapalma.org.

Facing another year of extremely limited water supplies from the Northern Sierra, State and Local water leaders are calling on all Southern Californians to conserve and use water wisely, particularly outdoors, where more than half of all residential water is typically used. At the July 5, 2022, City Council Meeting, the Council approved the Stage 2 Water Alert in La Palma. Residents may water their lawns and other outdoor watering activities up to 2 days per week. Fall events are in full swing again this year! Back by popular demand, the City will host the Annual Halloween Carnival on Sunday, October 30, so families can enjoy La Palma's safe, family-oriented alternative to the traditional trick-or-treating. Also this fall, the State of the City Address will be held Tuesday, October 11, at the Community Center. More information on both events can be found on the back cover.

La Palma students are expected to return to school the second week of August. Please be cautious, drive the speed limit in school zones, and remind your students to look both ways when crossing streets, walk on the sidewalks, and use the bike lanes if they take themselves to school.
