Published on: 13 January 2021Following on from the publication of the British Marine National Environmental Roadmap, the first Working Group (WG) met in December to look at engine and machinery emissions in the industry.
There were representatives from Princess Yachts, Barrus Engines, Fischer Panda, Sunseeker, Volvo, Yacht Carbon Offset and Pontoon and Dock.
The WG considered the challenges felt by the industry to meet the set Government targets of Net Zero by 2050, in addition to discussing the requirements for emission reduction capability by 2025.
The WG is looking at the current state of technology, alternatives to fossil fuel propulsion and when they might realistically be available on a wider commercial scale.
An industry position on the road to emissions will be one of the first outcomes of the WG, in addition to deciding what Government funding and support resources are necessary to enable the support of developing technologies.
Any further developments and information will be documented throughout Latest News, British Marine webinars, and the Technical Report. Any members who have questions or concerns in this area should contact James Scott-Anderson here.
