BPC’s J. Ronald Terwilliger Center for Housing Policy Welcomes Reps. Kim and Nickel to its Honorary Congressional Council

Washington, DC- BPC's J. Ronald Terwilliger Center for Housing Policy is excited to welcome two respected representatives to its Honorary Congressional Council: Rep. Young Kim(R-CA) and Rep. Wiley Nickel(D-NC).

"On behalf of the Terwilliger Center, I want to express our gratitude to Reps. Kim and Nickel for joining our Congressional Council," said Dennis Shea, the center's executive director. "While relatively new to Congress, both members have considerable expertise and broad experience working within their communities that will be invaluable to our efforts. We will greatly benefit from their guidance as we seek to respond to America's housing affordability crisis."

The other members of the council are Reps. Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-DE), Andrew Garbarino (R-NY), Mike Levin (D-CA), Nancy Mace (R-SC), Gregory Meeks (D-NY), and Beth Van Duyne (R-TX) and Sens. Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), Tina Smith (D-MN), Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) and Todd Young (R-IN). Each member of the council is committed to championing bipartisan policies to improve housing affordability.

Rep. Young Kim is serving her second term in Congress and represents California's 40th District, which includes parts of Orange, San Bernardino and Riverside counties. An immigrant, small business owner, community leader, former California Assemblywoman, mother, and grandmother, Rep. Kim is proud to be one of the first Korean American women ever to serve in Congress and is fighting to help all Americans have the chance to achieve their dream just like she did.

In the House of Representatives, Rep. Kim serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee - where she serves as Chairwoman of the Indo-Pacific Subcommittee and as a member of the Africa Subcommittee - and on the House Financial Services Committee - where she serves as Vice Chairwoman of the Subcommittee on National Security, Illicit Finance, and International Financial Institutions and as a member of the Financial Institutions and Monetary Policy Subcommittee. Rep. Kim also serves as co-chair of the Financial Literacy and Wealth Creation Caucus.

In 2022, she received the Bipartisan Policy Center's Legislative Action Award.

Rep. Wiley Nickel is currently serving his first term in Congress as the U.S. Representative of the 13th District of North Carolina which includes Wake, Wayne, Johnston and Harnett Counties.

Rep. Nickel earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Tulane University and later graduated from the Pepperdine University School of Law. Prior to being elected to Congress, Wiley served as a North Carolina State Senator, attorney, small business owner and worked for two White House administrations.

Rep. Nickel currently serves on the House Financial Services Committee where he is a member of the Subcommittees on Capital Markets, National Security, Illicit Finance and International Financial Institutions, and Digital Assets, Financial Technology and Inclusion.

He also serves as a Vice-Chair of the New Democrats Coalition Affordable Housing Task Force.
