Happy Little Trees 5K donates to tree plantings at two state parks

A total of 14 trees were planted at Clifty Falls State Park's campground thanks to generous donations from the 2023 Happy Little Trees 5K. The trees included species like tulip poplar, elm, and oak that will grow to provide shaded cover for campers at the park. Additional tree plantings funded by the virtual event will also take place at Prophetstown State Park's campground.

The Happy Little Trees 5K was created by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources in partnership with Bob Ross, Inc. in 2020. Nine states, including Indiana, have joined since then.

"It's great to see so many Hoosiers participating in the 5K and enjoying time in our wonderful outdoors," said Larry Brown, the Clifty Falls property manager. "We're grateful for the support and look forward to the benefits these trees will provide campers for years to come."

The 2024 Happy Little Trees 5K is still taking registrations and donations. Registration for the 5K includes a keepsake Happy Little T-shirt, a commemorative race bib number, and a finisher's medal. Choose where and when you complete the 5K anytime between Earth Day and Arbor Day. Registration is encouraged by April 1 to ensure delivery before the April events and closes on April 15.
