Garamendi Presents Check to City of Hercules for Hub Multi-Modal Transportation Station

HERCULES, CA-Today, U.S. Representative John Garamendi (D-CA08) presented an $850,000 check to the City of Hercules for the Hercules Hub Multi-Modal Transportation Station. The funding was made possible through a government funding package for Fiscal Year 2024. Garamendi was joined by Hercules Mayor Dan Romero and Council Members Alexander Walker-Griffin, Chris Kelley, and Tiffany Grimsley.

In addition to congressionally directed funding awarded today, Garamendi helped secure other federal and state funding for this critical transportation project, including a $30 million grant awarded by the California Department of Transportation.

"I am proud to have secured $850,000 in federal funding for the Hercules Hub Project," said Garamendi. "This funding will help to alleviate road congestion along some of the busiest corridors in the Bay Area by connecting residents with more efficient public transit options. I was pleased to present a check to the City of Hercules, and I thank local officials, including former Mayor Walker-Griffin, for providing us with the partnership and information that helped make today possible."

"The City of Hercules thanks Congressman Garamendi for the Federal funds for our Hercules Hub. Federal funding of local projects is vital to infrastructure projects, and Hercules thanks our Congressman for his trust in our community," said Hercules Mayor Dan Romero.

"I'm excited to show our residents that the Hercules City Council is serious about bringing a ferry, buses, and trains into town. This project will help thousands in our area easier and greater connect the Bay Area and Northern California. We thank Congressman Garamendi and his team for their partnership, and we look forward to future collaborations," said Council Member Alexander Walker-Griffin.

"The Hercules Hub will connect people in West Contra Costa County to jobs, housing, and transportation while also reducing traffic congestion and vehicles miles traveled on the Interstate-80 freeway. This project is a shining example of transit-oriented development," said Council Member Chris Kelley.

This federal funding will help to complete the final design phases for the Hercules Hub Project, a proposed multi-modal transportation station for busing, ferries, passenger rail, and drivers alike. The Hercules Hub will bring 1,400 residential units for families and workers, along with 340,000 square feet of retail, office, and industrial space, all located near buses, trains, carpools, ferries, bicycles, and walking paths. This project will increase regional mobility, connecting Contra Costa and Solano Counties with major hubs like San Francisco, Oakland, the South Bay, and Sacramento, thereby reducing reliance on single-occupancy vehicles. By offering accessible alternative transportation, The Hub will alleviate congestion on Interstate 80, the busiest freeway in Northern California. The project will divert approximately 4.3 million commute trips from the road annually while promoting cycling by installing bike paths adjacent to the station.
