Ballard Avenue Landmark District Board Announces Candidates for Annual Election

The Ballard Avenue Landmark District (BLD) Board is holding its annual election of board members. Community members who are registered for this election will receive a ballot and self-addressed stamped envelope by mail. Physical ballots must be received by the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods by Tuesday, June 25, 2024. Voters are encouraged to return their ballots early to make sure they are received by the June 25 deadline.

Two board positions are up for election:

• Position #6 for Property Owner or Business Person
• Position #7 for Property Owner

Nominations closed on Tuesday, May 21, and five candidates were nominated. Candidate information is provided below. Brief candidate statements will be included in the ballot.

There are three candidates seeking Position #6 for Property Owner or Business Person:

• Mark Durall (Olympic Athletic Club): Business manager and previous board member who values preserving the historic landscape of the district.
• Max Genereaux (The Ballard Smoke Shop): Previous board member who has owned and operated three different businesses in the district.
• Richard Hiner (Richard Hiner Architects): Business owner and architect who currently serves on the board and is committed to continued service.

There are two candidates seeking Position #7 for Property Owner:

• David Brazeau (Club Tavern Building): Longtime building owner who currently serves on the board and values the district's vibrancy, character, and charm.
• Meagan Teutsch (Ballard Landmark Building): Licensed clinical social worker and real estate professional with experience working with city government on issues relevant to the Ballard community.

The Ballard Avenue Landmark District is a nationally recognized historic district established in 1976 to commemorate the neighborhood's unique place in Ballard's history. To preserve its special character, the Ballard Avenue Landmark District Board reviews and approves changes to building exteriors within the district before the changes are made, such as signs, awnings, window transparency, paint colors, street furniture, and new construction.
