How to complete a Graduate Certificate in Food Science in just four weeks at Murdoch

Advance your food industry career with fast-tracked postgraduate study in a Commonwealth supported program

If you've been thinking about taking your career in the food industry to the next level, now's the right time to do so! This August, you can complete a Graduate Certificate in Food Science in just four weeks through an intensive course at Murdoch's Food Centre in the Food Innovation Precinct at Nambeelup.

Plus, this is a Commonwealth supported program (CSP), meaning part of your tuition fees will be subsidised by the Commonwealth.

What's it like to study at Murdoch's Food Innovation Centre?

You'll benefit from learning in a real-world food processing environment at Murdoch's Food Centre, within the Food Innovation Precinct Western Australia (FIPWA). This state-of-the-art facility fosters industry innovation to drive business growth and develop new products and exports. You'll be learning at the forefront of Western Australia's food and beverage manufacturing industry.

The Murdoch Food Centre is a modern learning facility equipped with everything you'll need to become fully immersed in your studies. When creating new food products, you'll use equipment like Near Infrared (NIR) Spectroscopy to determine the food's fibre content, and High Pressure Processing (HPP) or cold pasteurisation to extend shelf-life of your new product.

Along with flexible learning spaces, computer rooms and a student kitchen, the centre is home to multiple specialist laboratories including the sensory evaluation lab and the analytical and microbiology lab.

What will I study as part of the Graduate Certificate in Food Science?

You will develop theoretical and practical skills through your studies, creating innovative solutions to real-world problems such as developing affordable, nutritious and safe food products, or measuring consumer acceptance of new products using sensory evaluation. Align the course with your interests and career goals through your choice of units. You can choose four units from:

  • Food Safety
  • Food Microbiology
  • Food Engineering
  • Human Nutrition
  • Food Chemistry
  • Food Product Design and Development, and
  • Wandoo Boodja (Welcome to Country).
