Tarleton Track and Field primed for Texas Tech Open


STEPHENVILLE, Texas - Tarleton track and field is prepared to compete at its second meet of the indoor season hosted by Texas Tech, when they travel to Lubbock for the Texas Tech Open and Multis on Friday and Saturday.

Both the Texan men and women's programs were ranked in the top 25 of the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's (USTFCCCA) week 1 rankings earlier this week. The women slotted in at No. 19 in the south central region while the men came in at No. 25.


They look to build off the Corky Classic where records were broken, but head coach Clay Holland wants to see more consistency across the board.
"Last meet we knocked the rust off so to say," said Holland. "We have had a couple more weeks of practice since then and have been able to fine tune some things and get people healthy."
The field is stacked, as schools such as Georgia, Texas, Oklahoma, Auburn, Oregon and Ohio State will be in attendance.
"It's going to be a high-profile meet with some big performances this weekend," said Holland. "We are excited to get there and compete in a high-pressure situation and see how our student-athletes react to it."

Men's Entries
On the men's side, sophomore will look to build off his last 60m outing of 6.80 he ran at the Corky Classic. Raines will take part in the 60m dash, 200m dash and 60mm hurdles. He owns the school record in the 60m (6.71) which earned him the WAC Indoor Championship and sits in second place all-time in the 60m hurdles (8.01) behind Dalton Stidham in 2018 (7.91). Dazhuan Walton, Raines, , and will all race in the 200m dash.
will take part in the 800m dash in which he sits in fifth place in school history with a time of 1:57.30. At the Corky Classic, Smotek broke the school record in the 600y dash, running 1:10.32.
The lone high jumper for the men will be sophomore who has a jump of 6' 8" that ranks him fourth in school history from last season.
The Texans will trot out four men in the triple jump. Newcomer who hails from Italy broke the school record with a jump of 14.84m in December. , and round out the participants in the triple jump.
Junior will be the lone men's thrower for Tarleton as he competes in the shotput.
Women's Entries
On the women's side, freshman who owns the school record in the pole vault (3.53m) will be in attendance. , , Joran Rae and will all compete in the high jump. Hennig and Rae are tied atop the school record books with jumps of 1.72m and will look to top that.
, and will compete in the 60m dash. Dudley has a career-high time of 7.62 in the 60m dash which is good for second in school history.
The Texans will have seven participants in the 200m dash as Dudley, Thomas, , , , and all try their hand. Croxton has the best time of the participants with a 24.97 she ran in December that places her third in school history.
"A successful meet for us would be to see improvement," said Holland. "We are taking a lot of different event groups, so walking away from the meet and seeing improvement across the board after evaluating everything would be a step in the right direction."
