National Assembly President Rosen Zhelyazkov and MPs paid tribute and sent His Holiness the Bulgarian Patriarch and Sofia Metropolitan Neophyte on his last earthly journey. They attended the archiepiscopal funeral Mass at the Patriarchal Cathedral of St. Alexander Nevsky and the memorial service to Patriarch Neophyte, headed by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.

His Holiness the Bulgarian Patriarch and Sofia Metropolitan Neophyte died after a long illness on 13 March 2024.

With his kindness, the Patriarch should serve as an example to all, National Assembly President Rosen Zhelyazkov noted before the ceremonies. We will remember him as an impeccable cleric, as a proponent of Orthodoxy and the Bulgarian Orthodox Church and as a man who called for unity and integration, the President of Parliament added.

National Assembly President Rosen Zhelyazkov and MPs joined the mourning procession from the Patriarchal Cathedral of St. Alexander Nevsky to the Metropolitan Cathedral of St. Nedelya, where the coffin with the body of Patriarch Neophyte was laid.
