ENGIE acquires two biomethane production units in the Netherlands

This marks the third country in ENGIE's expansion, following France and the United Kingdom, bringing the Group's total biomethane production capacity to 1 TWh per year.

ENGIE has set a target of 10 TWh of annual biomethane production by 2030, accompanied by a significant investment program. As highlighted by Cécile Prévieu, Deputy CEO in charge of ENGIE's Infrastructure activities, "we aim to invest heavily in this renewable, local, and sovereign energy. Renewable gases are essential for the energy transition and will strongly contribute to the decarbonization of the European economy."

Located in Hardenberg (Overijssel province) and Alkmaar (North Holland province), these two new plants have annual biomethane production capacities of 90 GWh and 47 GWh respectively. They have the potential for expansion, allowing for up to 150 GWh of annual production capacity for the Hardenberg unit and 94 GWh for Alkmaar.
