Ohio EPA is accepting public comments regarding a draft permit that would allow the storage and beneficial use of Class B biosolids from the Mount Perry Nutrient Storage Facility.

After receiving requests from the community, Ohio EPA has extended the comment period an additional seven days to give citizens more time to comment on the draft permit. Comments are now due by 5 p.m. on Nov. 3, 2021.

To submit comments or receive information on the draft permit, email [email protected]. Comments submitted by email should include the project name (Mount Perry Nutrient Storage Facility) or the identification number (0IN00285*AD).

Mount Perry Nutrient Storage, LLC, located at County Road 34, is proposing to construct a 4.8-acre, non-discharging storage impoundment for storage of Class B biosolids from permitted Quasar Energy storage facilities. Ohio EPA will consider technical, economic, social, and environmental aspects of the project before deciding whether to issue or deny the permit.

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency was created in 1972 to consolidate efforts to protect and improve air quality, water quality and waste management in Ohio. Since then, air pollutants dropped by as much as 90 percent; large rivers meeting standards improved from 21 percent to 89 percent; and hundreds of polluting, open dumps were replaced with engineered landfills and an increased emphasis on waste reduction and recycling.
