Hospital da Luz Coimbra offers equipment to ANAJovem

The National Association for Youth Support received beds for the users of its social reintegration unit, in Coimbra.

Hospital da Luz Coimbra offered equipment to the National Association for Youth Support (ANAJovem), a non-profit private institution of social solidarity developing actions of support and social reintegration near drug-addicted, homeless or in risk situation youths. The donated material consists of 10 hospital beds in very good condition, which will now be used by the users of the temporary residential unit of the association, in Póvoa de São Martinho, Coimbra.

For Fernanda Pereira, president of the board of ANAJovem, this donation "has a very significant meaning", since it "meets the urgent need to replace the old and damaged beds in poor condition". "Being hospital beds, they represent for our users higher comfort and greater ease in the bed linen maintenance. On the other hand, ANAJovem is thus able to contribute to a sustainable development and circular economy, since with this Hospital da Luz donation, the association minimizes waste and fosters a reduction in potential environmental impacts", she adds.

For Hospital da Luz Coimbra, being close and supporting the community is also part of its mission to take care.

ANAJovem:

  • Was created in 1991, based in Coimbra, but its work is nationwide, serving all regions in the country. Presently, it follows around 90 users.
  • Created in Póvoa de São Martinho an apartment, where it houses former drug-addicts and/or individuals in situation of social exclusion. Through a methodology centred in the needs and specific competences of each individual and adapted to each person's profile of psychosocial functioning, it views to promote reintegration in society via school and/or professional reinsertion, the adoption of new values and healthy life habits, and the development of structured relationships with the surrounding environment.
  • It holds since 1998 a therapeutic community, Lua Nova, in Coimbra, which was pioneer in the country in supporting and treating pregnant women and/or with children (up to 10 years old), in situation of drug-addiction.
  • It has the intervention team Direta Raiz, which is a multidisciplinary team developing community intervention near youths and adults in risk of psychoactive substances consumption, drug-addicted and/or alcoholic in treatment and recovering (including the homeless population) and respective families, seeking together a feasible solution to fix and/or minimize the problems arising as a result of the consumption of psychoactive substances.
