Indiana Secretary of State Diego Morales Reports Increase in New Voter Registrations Prior to Primary Election

INDIANAPOLIS- (May 3, 2024) - Indiana Secretary of State Diego Morales reports an increase in Hoosier voter registrations leading up to the May Primary Election.

Data shows a greater increase in new voter registrations in the last month before the registration deadline when compared to the past 5 years. Secretary Morales credits office and county voter registration efforts.

Since the start of Secretary Morales' administration, voter participation and voter turnout were major focuses for the Secretary of State's Office. A statewide voter outreach campaign including schools, fairs, festivals, sporting events, and parades was conducted. Also, some funding from 67 local election improvement grants administered by the Secretary of State were used for voter education and outreach activities.

During the pre-Primary Election voter registration period, the Secretary of State's Office promoted voter registration on television, radio, and digital media platforms. The office also initiated a targeted digital voter registration campaign, directing encouragement to individuals who will turn 18-years-old by the November Election and groups underrepresented on the voter registration rolls.

"As a grassroots statewide elected official, I've been so passionate about our outreach and community engagement efforts as we've crisscrossed all 92 counties of the state for a second year in a row at a record pace. We are so encouraged to see more eligible Hoosiers registered to vote. This is proof of our hard work. Now it's time to get out to the polls and vote," said Diego Morales, Indiana Secretary of State.

As a reminder, Election Day is Tuesday, May 7th. Hoosiers can always check their voting status, find polling locations, and see a sample ballot at the IndianaVoters.comwebsite.

Continued outreach efforts are planned throughout the summer and fall leading up to the General Election in November. The Indiana Secretary State's Office will once again be a proud sponsor at the Great Indiana State Fair.
