Ga. EPD provides funding for new playground surface

What is this stuff? Many of you have asked about the playground surface at Peek Park. It's bouncy, squishy, and made of … old tires!

The new playground at Peek Park features virtually maintenance free rubber surfacing - fully paid for by a Tire-Derived Product Grant from the Georgia Environmental Protection Division. The $245,000 grant covered the cost of installing the surface. This poured-in-place surface was used instead of wooden mulch to provide greater shock absorption, fall protection, and accessibility for the Peek Park playground.

The Tire-Derived Product surface will address identified concerns from staff and parents. Upgrades will not only increase appeal to the area but also improve accessibility standards and provide ADA compliant facilities.

In addition to providing safety benefits, poured-in-place rubber playground surfaces are also highly durable, environmentally friendly, cost-effective, and low maintenance.
