What You Need to Know: Khalsa Day Celebration and Parade

Vancouver Island's largest Vaisakhi celebration is taking place this weekend, in the Burnside Gorge neighbourhood.

The Khalsa Day Celebration and parade will take place on Sunday, April 28 from 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m.

Where:
The Khalsa Day Celebration will take place at Gurdwara Singh Sabha Victoria, 470 Cecelia Road. A portion of Napier Lane and Cecelia Road will be closed to accommodate the event.

The parade will begin on Cecelia Road then move to Napier Lane, Burnside Road, Alpha Street, Douglas Street (from Alpha to Finlayson), Finlayson Street (from Douglas to Jutland) and then Jutland Road (from Burnside to Cecelia).

Getting to and from the event:
Visitors are encouraged to walk, cycle or take transit. BC Transit will operate as normal.

Parking:
Parking closures on the parade route and event site will be in effect. All cars parked during the posted times will be towed at the owner's expense, based on event signage.

Road closures and delays:
Please note that a carnival at Mayfair Mall is also taking place this weekend.

Traffic from the parade and carnival is expected to create traffic delays around Mayfair Mall from approximately 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sunday. Residents are encouraged to plan arrival times and routes accordingly.

Watch for road closures on Burnside Road East and Douglas Street, from Finlayson to Tolmie from 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. If you're travelling into or out of downtown, please take Blanshard.

BC Transit routes will not be affected.
