Best Buy Health shows Q1 momentum toward enabling care in the home for everyone

The first few months of 2024 brought some exciting milestones for Best Buy Health in our journey to enable care at home for everyone. A product launch and new partnerships are just some of the highlights from a very busy quarter.

Making safety and independence sleeker for seniors

In March, we announced the launch of Lively Mobile2, a medical alert device offering unparalleled safety and independence. It offers the same best-in-class response and assistance at the touch of a button, but with a smaller, sleeker, and more subtle design.

The new device provides the industry's highest overall fall-detection sensitivity, ensuring safety and peace of mind for seniors and their loved ones. And beyond the button is 24/7/365 support from more than 1,000 highly trained and empathetic Caring Center Agents providing urgent response and social care services.

Recent research tests falls prevention

We're supporting seniors to age safely at home, and part of that work includes optimizing programs to help prevent a fall in the first place. Researchers from Best Buy Health and Mass General Brigham collaborated on a study, recently published in the Journal of Frailty & Aging, on digital fall prevention for at-risk older adults.

Participating seniors enrolled in a 12-week program that included exercises for strength and balance, coaching calls, and digital motivational messaging. Participants' activity was tracked via a wearable sensor. The study participants reported significant improvements in their fear of falling and made meaningful increases in walking activity.

The study highlights the potential of digital interventions to motivate and empower at-risk older adults.

Enabling care at home with new partnerships

We talk a lot about our big goal to enable care at home for everyone, and we're intentional about our role as the enabler. Partnering with providers, health plans, and biopharma organizations is at the core of our strategy. The first quarter brought along several new partners in this work, including St. Luke's University Health Network in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. We're excited to support post-discharge patients with congestive heart failure through the Current Health platform.

Bringing safe CAR-T experiences home

HCA Healthcare's Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute (SCCI) found a way to help cancer patients getting CAR T-cell therapy be treated in their own homes. Leveraging Best Buy Health's remote patient monitoring platform, Current Health, the initiative helps patients recover from treatment at home instead of staying in the hospital, reducing complications and hospitalizations post-treatment.

"Patients heal better outside the hospital if they can get these complicated therapies, which carry risk for significant complications, safely in the outpatient setting," said Dr. Navneet Majhail, physician-in-chief of blood cancers, Sarah Cannon Transplant & Cellular Therapy Network.

CAR-T treatment can be lifesaving, but often brings long inpatient hospital stays that are burdensome for patients and their caregivers. Taking center stage

The team had a busy winter as they traveled to many industry events including ViVE and HIMSS. When our leaders weren't giving guests a "house tour" through our booth, they were on stage with other key thought leaders discussing the latest challenges and opportunities in the industry.

Best Buy Health president Deborah DiSanzo participated on a panel at ViVE to discuss how care delivery has evolved outside of the hospital. Across the room, chief commercial officer Diana Gelston chatted with our partner Mass General Bringham and others, covering how we're bringing acute hospital level care into the home at scale. The momentum continued at HIMSS, where chief medical officer Ben Zaniello presented with our partner, Geisinger, on how Best Buy's Geek Squad can improve chronic disease management in the home. Deborah then made her way to Austin for an appearance at SXSW to do a panel with our partner Advocate Health and Amazon Pharmacy to discuss new technologies making care at home possible.
