Winter Storm Aftermath: Downed Tree Limbs; Power Outages & Warming Center Info

Some precipitation is still lingering, but appears to be moving out of the area. Temperatures are still hovering around the freezing mark, so continue to use extreme caution on area roadways if you must get out with slick spots, non-functioning traffic lights and downed limbs as a potential road hazard. Power crews are continuing work today to restore power. Here is a further update:

POWER OUTAGES

Power outages continue for many residents in the area. Make sure to have extra blankets ready, along with flashlights (with fresh batteries). Please report outages directly to Austin Energy or PEC, depending on your provider. This is not a police issue; Austin Energy or PEC will work to fix the issue. You can call Austin Energy at 512-322-9100 or PEC at 888-883-3379 or by texting "Outage" to 25022. Power crews are out in full force; however, with all trees and limbs continuing to fall, they are having to prioritize getting power to our water treatment facilities and other vital resources. Plan to possibly be without power for an extended time while crews continue to make repairs.

NEIGHBOR CHECK-IN

Please check on your neighbors, especially your elderly neighbors or those more vulnerable to the cold weather. Now is the time for us to come together and make sure our neighbors are ok, and have a warm place this evening, as well as food and water.

WARMING CENTER

A Warming Center has been activated at the Lakeway Police Department, located at 1941 Lohmans Crossing Road. This is just a location if you're out of power and need a place to warm up. This is not an official shelter and will only have basic supplies, including access to a restroom and limited cots. If you come to the warming center, please be extra cautious on the roadways, as there will still be slick spots, non-functioning traffic signals and broken limbs on roadways. If you need assistance getting to or from the warming center, please contact the Lakeway Police Department at (512) 261-2800.

LAKEWAY MUD WATER SUPPLY

This is a precautionary notice to all of our customers: due to the winter weather causing local power outages, as a precautionary measure, LMUD is asking customers to do their best to conserve water while the surrounding area's power is restored. We appreciate your cooperation. LMUD offices will be open today. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact them by phone at (512) 261-6222.

WEST TRAVIS COUNTY PUA WATER SUPPLY

If you receive water service through the West Travis County PUA, please note that the PUA critical facilities have lost power, and it is essential for all of their customers to conserve water temporarily. Please limit the use of washing machines, dishwashers and any non-essential water use until further notice. The PUA website will be updated when the system is fully operational (wtcpua.org).

AVOID ROADWAYS

Please avoid driving on area roadways unless absolutely necessary again today due to slick spots, non-functioning traffic lights and broken tree limbs. Bridges and overpasses could still be especially dangers with temperatures hovering around the freezing mark. The following roads are blocked or partially blocked because of hanging or broken tree limbs:

  • Lakeway Drive (near the Lakeway Resort & Spa)
  • Sunfish (at Lakeway Drive)
  • Gannett Cove
  • Lakeway Blvd
  • Highlands Blvd
  • Sailmaster

DOWNED TREES

It's imperative you call 911 ONLY if there is an EMERGENCY, not for downed trees in your yard, and not for power outages. Our Public Works team is working on setting up brush/recycling locations over the next several days. However, please know that downed limbs and trees are the responsibility of the property owner. Please also be cautious of moving limbs. Live wires could be a possibility and deadly if you make contact. Only professional crews should go anywhere near a downed power line. Be sure to call your power company if you spot a downed line. Because of the drought, many roots of trees were dried out, so the ice is uprooting some of them. Be CAREFUL if you venture outside. Also, be careful at area parks as there are several broken limbs and limbs still falling due to the ice. Please allow crews over the next few days to assess the situation and fix any possible hazards in the parks.

HELPFUL LINKS

City offices are closed Thursday. If you need assistance, please call the Lakeway Police Department at (512) 261-2800. For emergencies, please dial 9-1-1.
