The statistics favour the Black & Yellows

BVB have reached the final of a European competition on four out of the five occasions when the semi-final second leg was played away from home. Borussia Dortmund have also come out on top in four of their six knockout matches with clubs from France. The facts preview for the second leg in Paris.

History

Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain are going head-to-head for the eighth time in European competition. The record is balanced: two wins, three draws and two defeats for BVB.

The Black & Yellows' first game in Paris was in the group stage of the 2010/11 UEFA Europa League (a goalless draw). Their next trip to the French capital was in the round of 16 of the 2019/20 UEFA Champions League, where they lost 2-0 after winning the first leg 2-1 in Dortmund. Following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the second leg in Paris was the first game in Borussia Dortmund history to be played behind closed doors. The opening match in the group stage of the current season also ended in a 2-0 loss for Dortmund.

PSG facts

This is Paris Saint-Germain's 16th season in the Champions League. They now share the French record for Champions League appearances with Lyon.

PSG have been in the competition every season since 2012/13 and have always reached the knockout phase in the past twelve seasons.

Paris have only reached the semi-finals of Europe's elite club competition twice before, and only reached the final once (2020).

Paris went unbeaten in their first nine home games against German clubs (eight wins, one draw), but lost two of their last four - both 1-0 defeats to Bayern Munich (2021 and 2023).

PSG have prevailed in five of their seven knockout ties against German clubs.

The home defeat to Barcelona in the quarter-finals was their sixth in the last 24 games at the Parc des Princes.

PSG have progressed to the next round in six of their nine ties in which they've lost the first leg away from home.

BVB facts

Borussia Dortmund are in a European semi-final for the ninth time in total. BVB have reached the final on four of the five occasions in which the second leg has been played away from home: 1993 in Auxerre, 1997 in Manchester, 2002 in Milan and 2013 in Madrid.

In total, BVB have won the first leg at home in 39 knockout ties, going on to advance on 21 occasions.

The Black & Yellows' record in knockout ties against teams from France is positive, reaching the next round four times and failing to do so twice.

BVB's victories in Newcastle and Milan in the group stage boosted their recent away record in Europe: six wins, three draws and seven defeats from their most recent 16 games on the road. (br)
