Wildfire status-Saprae Creek Estates

Update: Sunday, April 21 7:30 p.m.

Wood Buffalo RCMP are asking residents to cease any personal drone activity near the fire scene as it poses a risk to air response operations.

Alberta Wildfire and Regional Emergency Services crews are continuing to respond to the wildfire located southeast of Fort McMurray, near Saprae Creek Estates. As this is an active wildfire situation, it is critical that non-essential personnel stay away from the area.

MWF-012 was detected on April 21, 2024. This wildfire is classified as out of control and is approximately 30 ha in size. There is a strong coordinated response underway for air and ground suppression. Community members may see increased smoke as crews use multiple suppression methods to manage the fire. Specialized nighttime air operations will take place when possible.

The evacuation alert, which in place for the community of Saprae Creek Estates, will remain in place overnight. This will be the last post of the day, unless the situation changes.
