Representative Adriano Espaillat Recognizes Earth Day 2024

NEW YORK, NY - Today, Representative Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) issued the following statement in recognition of Earth Day 2024 and touted several pieces of legislation he has introduced during the 118th Congress:

"On Earth Day, we reaffirm our commitment to adopting climate solutions to save our planet," said Espaillat. "The difference we make today will have resounding impacts throughout our communities and the future of our society. I am proud to sponsor many critical environmental bills this Congress and remain committed to ensuring a greener, more sustainable future for the next generation."

Rep. Espaillat has introduced the following climate legislation during the 118th Congress:

1. H.R. 598 - The Earth Act ensures the U.S. will make a comprehensive transition towards a green future by requiring 100 percent renewable electricity, 100 percent zero emission vehicles, and increased regenerative agriculture by 2030.

2. H.R 3961 - The Green Climate Fund Authorization Act authorizes an additional $8 billion to the Green Climate Fund, supporting climate action initiatives globally.

3. H.R. 5324 - The Housing Survivors of Major Disasters Act aims to eliminate barriers for survivors of natural disasters when seeking housing assistance.

4. H.R. 5980 - The Resilient Transit Act authorizes $300 million each year through 2026 to improve infrastructure to mitigate the impact of severe weather on public transit systems.

5. H.R. 595 - Recognizing Cecil Corbin-Mark honors his significant contributions to the environmental justice movement, working with primarily vulnerable and disadvantaged communities.

6. H.R. 8087 - The Solid Waste Infrastructure for Recycling Grant Program (SWIFR) Reauthorization Act, which would reauthorize and suggest an increase in funding for the EPA's most important recycling grant program through 2035.

Representative Espaillat is the first Dominican American to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives and his congressional district includes Harlem, East Harlem, West Harlem, Hamilton Heights, Washington Heights, Inwood, Marble Hill and the north-west Bronx.
