Man arrested for theft and possession for the purpose of trafficking

A 31-year-old man from The Glades, N.B., has been arrested following a shoplifting incident at a business in Sussex.

On April 18, 2024, at approximately 2 p.m., members of the Sussex RCMP Detachment received a call for shoplifting in progress at a business on Main Street in the community. Individuals had entered the business and stole a number of items before leaving the scene.

Officers quickly located the suspect vehicle in a parking lot and conducted a traffic stop where the three occupants, a 31-year-old man and two women, were arrested. Police searched the vehicle and were able to recover the merchandise that had been stolen from the business, as well as what is believed to be a large quantity of methamphetamine and money. The two women were subsequently released from police custody.

The 31-year-old man, from The Glades, N.B., was later released on several conditions and is scheduled to appear in Saint John Provincial Court on July 17, 2024.

The investigation is ongoing.
