Knauf Insulation's Shasta Lake Facility Celebrates 20 Years

Shasta Lake, Cal (May 9, 2022)-Knauf Insulation, Inc. celebrated 20 years of business in the Shasta Lake, CA community at an event with 300 employees and family members on Saturday, May 7, 2022. In addition to recognizing employees for their contributions and tenure, the family-friendly event included tours of the plant, a dunk tank, and volleyball. The Shasta Lake facility, known in the community for their generosity, made the event a fundraiser for local foundation Tina's Children's Foundation.

The 500,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility, built in 2002, sits on 100 acres near the Shasta Gateway Industrial Park. The plant employs 156 employees and operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The facility is one of the largest suppliers of sustainable insulation products to the Pacific Northwest region.

Knauf Insulation is very involved in local charities, giving generously to local schools and organizations such as Make-A-Wish, YMCA, and One Safe Place. One of the most memorable ways the facility's employees support their community is by helping victims of local wildfires evacuate, secure safe shelter, and collect essential household items.

"The 2018 Carr Fire had a devastating effect on our community and a fellow employee lost their home. Through fundraising and support we were able to raise $18,377," said Reilly Montegary, Production Manager.

The Shasta Lake facility is known for innovation across Knauf's network of six U.S. manufacturing plants that produce sustainable insulation. It was the first facility in the world to fully convert to ECOSE® Technology, a revolutionary, renewable bio-based binder that replaced petroleum-based chemicals such as phenol, formaldehyde and acrylics commonly used in fiberglass insulation. Shasta Lake's team has increased output by 70 percent over 20 years with very little capital investment in new equipment. This is mainly due to the innovation, collaboration, and dedication coming from employees.

"Employees have a strong voice; they're leading committees, driving innovation, rewarding team values, choosing who they get to work with," said Eric Long, Plant Manager. "We're proud of the open-door culture we've built where employees feel like family, whether that is hosting pot lucks, weekend golfing or fishing outings, or playing on our employee softball team."

"Anybody who has an idea for anything can help make our process better. We have a great system for submitting them, reviewing them, and implementing them," said Sam Savasta, Utility Operator and Relief Shift Supervisor.

Knauf Insulation Shasta Lake uses more than 50 percent recycled glass in its manufacturing process, keeping 600,000 glass bottles out of the landfill every day. Other firsts and innovations at the facility include using a cold top electric furnace and autobagger technology which both save energy and increase production.

The Shasta Lake facility continues to grow and is currently looking for production associates, warehouse associates, mechanical engineers and other roles.
