Save Money with Energy-Efficient Appliances

As the summer months approach, Southern California Edison customers can explore ways to save money on their electricity bills, especially with the increased use of air conditioning and cooling systems during warmer weather.

One cool way to lower energy costs and stay comfortable during the scorching heat of summer is by enrolling in SCE's Energy Savings Assistance Program.

"Our income-qualified customers can qualify for an upgrade to free or low-cost, energy-efficient appliances and save money on their bills while reducing the impact on the environment by lowering their carbon footprint," said Carter Prescott, SCE director of Advanced Energy Solutions.

Among the energy-efficient options available to customers are heat pumps. These versatile units provide a greener alternative to traditional heating and cooling systems and boast significant cost savings.

According to a National Renewable Energy Laboratory study, heat pumps can reduce household energy emissions by 36% to 64% over their 16-year lifespan, translating to substantial financial savings.

How the Program Works:

The Energy Savings Assistance Program aims to help customers conserve energy and save money. Income-qualified participants may qualify for energy-efficient appliances at no charge or a minimal cost - including installation.

The online application is straightforward, and customer information remains confidential. Once processed, an SCE-approved contractor will assess the eligible new appliances and products available for each household.

To Be Eligible, Customers:

  • May own or rent a property and must receive electric services through a residential meter.
  • Must have an active SCE service account.
  • Must meet the specific requirements for each appliance replacement or installation service.
  • May reside in single-family homes or mobile homes. Residences with four or fewer units are considered single-family homes, including duplexes, triplexes and fourplexes.
  • Can qualify based on income and family size criteria. Alternatively, participating in an SCE-approved eligible public assistance program qualifies individuals or households.

Qualification and Assessment:

To be eligible, customers must meet specific household income guidelines. After income qualification, a contractor will conduct a walk-through of the home to collect information. This information will assist SCE in determining the potential for installing one or more appliances or services. An inspection may be conducted in your home to ensure that the contractor has met our installation quality standards.

The energy-efficient appliances installed through the ESA program also have a two-year manufacturer warranty.
