08.04.21

Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-13) today applauded the passage of S.J.Res.10 - a joint resolution to repeal the 2002 and 1991 authorizations for the use of military force (AUMF) - out of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee by a vote of 14-8. Congresswoman Lee released the following statement:

'Today we are one step closer to ending forever wars. Chairman Menendez and Senator Kaine are building on our momentum in the House, and I'm looking forward to seeing how quickly we can move this process forward and push it across the finish line. We have multiple avenues to get this done. I will continue to work with Senator Kaine and our allies to find the best and most efficient path forward. It's long past due to end our forever wars. We are well on our way.'

In June, the House adopted H.R. 256, Congresswoman Lee's legislation to repeal the 2002 AUMF, by a bipartisan vote of 268-161. The Biden Administration issued a Statement of Administrative Policy in support of H.R. 256.
