LIVONIA, MICH./COLUMBUS, OH. (May 9, 2024) - Trinity Health has announced Tauana McDonald, FACHE, as president and chief executive officer of Mount Carmel Health System. She will begin her role July 1, 2024. The Mount Carmel Board and Trinity Health selected McDonald following a national search. She succeeds Lorraine Lutton, who announced her retirement late last year.

McDonald's appointment makes her the first African American woman to be named president and CEO of a health system in Central Ohio as well as the first to lead the Mount Carmel Health System in its 138-year history.

"Tauana is a dynamic leader well-poised to lead Mount Carmel into the next chapters of success," said Trinity Health's Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Ben Carter. "She was critical to Mount Carmel's financial, quality and culture turnaround. Her track record of excellence speaks for itself."

McDonald joined Trinity Health in 2003. With a thoughtful and values-driven approach, she quickly advanced in roles of increasing responsibility transforming large clinical operations and initiatives across the system. In 2017, McDonald took on the newly created role of chief administrative officer at Mount Carmel. She led the system's work to align operating models and develop programs and partnerships that strengthened the system.

In 2020, Tauana was promoted into an expanded role and was named president and chief operating officer of Mount Carmel Grove City. Tauana is a trusted and influential leader whose results-driven, versatile leadership drove Mount Carmel's stabilization and growth during and after the pandemic.

"I'm thrilled to begin this new role and continue partnering with our incredible colleagues, staff and physicians in building on the momentum we've created here at Mount Carmel to advance our Mission," McDonald said. "I've come to call Columbus home and am honored to serve the needs of the Central Ohio Community."

Tauana received her bachelor's degree in human biology from Stanford University and holds a master's degree in health service management and policy from the University of Michigan. A Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, Tauana serves on the boards of the Mount Carmel Behavioral Health Hospital, Mid-Ohio Food Collective and is President of the OSU/Mount Carmel Alliance Board. She is a member of the American Hospital Association Health Services Executives, Ohio Hospital Association Strategy and Innovation Council and active in numerous national and local service organizations. Tauana was recognized as Lifeline of Ohio's 2023 Executive of the Year, a 2023 Women for Economic and Leadership Development honoree, an Uplift Her honoree for the 2022 African American Male Wellness Agency and named to Modern Healthcare's Top 25 Minority Executives 2016.
