After blocking urgently needed coronavirus relief for months, Senators David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler are standing with Majority Leader McConnell as he proposes yet another corporate bailout bill that shortchanges much needed unemployment relief, fails to provide critical aid to state and local governments, and has no chance of passing Congress. McConnell's stunt bill is an insufficient package that shortchanges hardworking Americans while prioritizing corporate immunity for Republicans' special interest donors seeking to put workers and consumers at risk.
Economists say McConnell's latest stunt bill is 'not enough ' with millions of Americans 'vulnerable to eviction and hunger' as critical relief programs are on the verge of expiring. Since much of the federal emergency unemployment aid expired in July, Perdue, Loeffler, and McConnell have refused to negotiate on a serious effort that can pass Congress and repeatedly stoodagainst extending emergency relief that so many Georgians have relied on to meet basic needs. Instead, they took a month-long summer vacation for August recess, turned their backs on those who desperately need help, and pushed a series of stuntbills for political cover.
'By backing another McConnell stunt bill, Perdue and Loeffler are once again doing the bidding of their corporate donors in Washington while not lifting a finger to deliver meaningful help for hardworking Georgians,' said DSCC spokesperson Helen Kalla. 'Millions of Georgians are facing a rapidly approaching financial cliff, but Perdue and Loeffler are showing they have no desire to deliver the urgent relief their constituents need to get through this crisis.'
