Nampa Mayor's Teen Council Receives Grants to Promote Living Drug Free

The Nampa Mayor's Teen Council is partnering with the Nampa Fire District, Healthy Impact Nampa Coalition and the Nampa Police Department to promote living drug free and promote the Nampa Narcan Leave Behind Program available for youth struggling with substance abuse.

The Nampa Mayor's Teen Council applied for and received a $1,500 grant from the Office of Drug Policy via the Idaho Association of Cities for the purpose of providing anti-drug and alcohol abuse programing in our community. The grant will be used to create a "living drug free" art contest at local high schools and printing stickers with our drug free catch-phrase message and QR code linking to the Nampa Narcan Leave Behind website. Students in grades 9th-12th living in Nampa are invited to enter the art contest "living drug free" through their school or by contacting the Mayor's Office. Artwork must be submitted by Monday, May 6 at 5 p.m. Amazon gift cards will be awarded to the top three selections ($150 for first, $100 for second and $50 for third). Artwork will be judged by first responders and prizes for the top three winners will be awarded.

Nampa Mayor's Teen Council was also selected to participate in Youth Innovation in Rural America (YIRA), Museum on Main Street in conjunction with Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum in New York City. YIRA asks youth to exam local assets, characteristics, people, resources and history to tackle the challenges of today with creative solutions and chart new directions for their future. They requested and received $3,000 from Cooper Hewitt to update and improve the Nampa Narcan Leave Behind Program website, which now includes a survey link for teens, and $1,000 to pay for the hosting of the website for one year. The new and improved website will enhance users' experience, better meeting the needs of teenagers. It will have updated content and make mobile device access available.

Artwork submissions and website information for the Narcan Leave Behind program will be displayed at the Youth Innovation in Rural America Student Showcase and Celebration on Friday, May 17 at the Nampa Public Library at 6:30-8:00 p.m., and the winners will be announced and awarded. Artists, parents and first responders are invited to attend as well.
