Oslo, conference on Artificial Intelligence in Italian research

The ItalianEmbassy in Oslo celebrated Italian Research Day in the World at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim with a seminar entitled "L'Intelligenza Artificiale nella ricerca italiana in Norvegia - Panel discussion sulle sfide e sulle opportunità per la nostra ricerca" (Artificial Intelligence in Italian research in Norway - challenges and opportunities for our research).

Opened by the Counsellor of the Italian Embassy in Oslo, Luca Fraticelli, the Vice Honorary Consul in Trondheim, Professor Giuseppe Marinelli, and Professor Marisa Di Sabatino, the event provided a detailed overview of the presence of "Italian Researchers in Norway and Iceland".

Ambassador Stefano Nicoletti emphasised that "The choice of a cross-cutting topic such as Artificial Intelligence, which impacts on research in multiple areas, offering new opportunities but also presenting risks, has served to attract the attention of the Italian scientific community in the Country. We want to start having a more structured dialogue with this community, first of all by learning more about it, through the setting up of a database that will allow us to better familiarise ourselves not only with the universities or research centres in which it operates, but also with the topics of its investigations, in order to create greater synergies and enhance its contributions."

The Italian Research Day in the World 2024 involved around 70 lecturers and researchers in Norway and another 80 attending remotely, with a significant involvement on the part of the community of resident scholars and scientists, which today includes, between Norway and Iceland, around 600 representatives from all academic disciplines. The event is intended to be the first in a series of future initiatives in the Country, through which the Embassy aims to involve resident Italian researchers and lecturers in an increasingly direct and active way on issues of relevant interest to research and academia.
