Earth Month events in April

Join the City of Carlsbad to celebrate Earth Day's 53rd Anniversary with events and activities throughout April. Earth Day is an opportunity to reflect on our community's commitment to responsible stewardship of the environment. Enjoy fun activities and a showcase of city programs aimed to help you reduce your impact on the environment and live more sustainably.

SD Fixit Clinic and Repair Event

April 1, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Cole Library, East Lawn, 1250 Carlsbad Village Drive

Learn repair tips and tricks to give keep common household items a second life while keeping them out of the landfill. This repair event will feature the SD Fix-it Clinic and spotlight local repair businesses with informational booths and a series of demonstrations of do-it-yourself repairs of various items, including bikes, clothing, and small appliances. Registration is preferred, but walk-ins are welcome. Register now.

Donate, Don't Waste Collection Event

April 1, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Fire Station 1, Parking Lot, 1275 Carlsbad Village Drive

Give your used items a second chance. Donate them! This event allows Carlsbad residents to donate items for reuse through Goodwill programs instead of sending them to the landfill. Items accepted at the event include small home appliances like toasters or blenders, housewares and home décor, small furniture items, sporting goods, electronics and gently used clothing, shoes, and accessories. No registration is required.

Shred and Recycle It! Event

April 8, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Carlsbad location provided upon registration.

Shred and recycle sensitive documents in an environmentally responsible way for free. Residents should bring a maximum of five standard-sized boxes (10"x12"x15") of paper for drop-off.
Advanced registration and proof of residency are required. Registration is open from March 21 to April 1 on the Republic Services Carlsbad webpage.

Earth Month Celebration

April 15, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Pine Avenue Community Park, 3209 Harding St.

Enjoy family-friendly activities, sustainability-focused booths, and live music at the City of Carlsbad's annual Earth Month Celebration.

Activities include:

  • Clothing swap
  • DIY homemade cleaning products workshop
  • Vegetable pickling
  • Kids craft
  • Single-use plastic utensils and plastic bag donation drop-off

Compost and Mulch Giveaway

April 15, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Carlsbad Senior Center Parking Lot, 799 Pine Ave.

Pick up free compost and mulch during the Earth Month Celebration. This compost and mulch, provided by Republic Services, is made from the organic waste collected in your very own green compost cart!

Virtual Lunch & Learns

April 17-20, 11:30 a.m., Virtual
Celebrate Earth Day's 53rd Anniversary by participating in a series of lunch and learns to raise awareness about citywide sustainability initiatives. Join city staff for thirty minutes each day while enjoying lunch from the comfort of your own home or workspace! Registration opening soon.

Creek to Bay Cleanup

April 22, 9 a.m. to noon, register for a location
Help the City of Carlsbad and I Love A Clean San Diego remove 30,000 pounds of litter in a single day at the 21st Annual Creek to Bay Cleanup. Register for a hosted location at cleansd.org/creek-to-bay or get outside, stay close to your home and collect litter throughout the streets of your neighborhood. Registration starts on April 1.

Sustainable Life Workshop

April 29, 10 to 11 a.m.
Alga Norte Community Park Meeting Room, 6565 Alicante Road

Join I Love A Clean San Diego and the City of Carlsbad for a free in-person workshop, focusing on how to put your passion for sustainability into action! Learn practical tips on how to reduce 'disposable' waste and make sustainable choices part of your everyday life. Registration is preferred, but walk-ins are welcome. Register now.
