Hammond Man Killed in Tangipahoa Parish Crash

Published: 04-16-2024 | Category: Troop L

Hammond - Yesterday evening, shortly after 5:15 p.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L began investigating a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Hwy 190 at South Baptist Road in Tangipahoa Parish. The crash claimed the life of 45-year-old Eric Cook of Hammond.

The initial investigation revealed the crash occurred as a 2018 Honda CRV, driven by 24-year-old Victoria Reid of Covington, was eastbound on U.S. Hwy 190 approaching the intersection at South Baptist Road with a red traffic signal. At the same time, a 2020 Toyota Corolla, driven by Cook, was northbound on South Baptist Road, approaching the intersection at U.S. Hwy 190 with a green traffic signal. For reasons still under investigation, the Honda traveled into the intersection, while the red traffic signal was still displayed, and struck the Toyota.

Despite being properly restrained, Cook sustained severe injuries as a result of the crash. He was transported to a local hospital before he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. Reid was properly restrained and sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash. She was also transported to a local hospital. This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers wish to remind motorists to always make good decisions while in a motor vehicle. Never drive impaired, fatigued, or distracted, follow all traffic laws, and always ensure every occupant is properly restrained. While not all crashes are survivable, taking simple precautions such as these can often mean the difference between life and death.
