Azerbaijan – Recall of the Ambassador (16 April 2024)

France has decided to recall its ambassador to Azerbaijan for consultations due to unilateral actions taken by Azerbaijan in recent months, which are damaging to relations between our two countries.

President Macron met with our ambassador today to discuss this issue. He expressed regret for Azerbaijan's actions along with his hope that the Azerbaijanis would clarify their intentions.

France reaffirms its support for the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, consistent with international law and the territorial integrity of both countries. Normalization would benefit both countries and the entire region.
