Police officers and journalists from eleven countries in Africa come together to enhance freedom of expression

From 16-18 November 2022, UNESCO organized the first regional training of trainers' workshop for high-ranking police officers and trainers of police academies from 11 countries across Africa. Held in Mombasa, Kenya, the training served to enhance the knowledge and capacities of law enforcement officers on freedom of expression and safety of journalists and fostered an interactive dialogue between police and media professionals.

The regional training gathered 27 high-ranking officers from national police training academies, office of the police spokesperson, human rights office as well as units of civil protection of several police services in Africa, namely from Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, Mauritius, Namibia, Nigeria, Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
