Minister Dlamini Zuma to deliver keynote address at the UN High-Level Partnership Roundtable launch on addressing Gender-Based Violence In Southern Africa

Minister in the Presidency responsible for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma will deliver the keynote address at the UN launch for the high-level partnership roundtable on addressing Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) in Southern Africa on 10 October 2023.

The roundtable includes a sub-regional joint programme between South Africa; Lesotho; Eswatini; Namibia; Botswana; and Zambia, and one of its aims is to highlight the significance of a sub-regional approach to combating GBV and violence against women and girls.

When compared to international statistics, Southern Africa has alarmingly high rates of GBV, especially violence against women and girls (VAWG), making a comprehensive and cooperative strategy to address this epidemic necessary.

This joint initiative aims to address all forms of violence against women and girls, with a focus on intimate partner violence, sexual violence, harmful practices, and femicide in light of the high incidences of gender-based violence, homicide, and murder in the
Southern African region. It is in line with regional, national, and global obligations as well as the principle of the 2030 Agenda of Leaving No One Behind.
