Our ‘unsung hero’ Mona Vale, throned one of the best beaches in the world

When you think about the best beaches in the world what do you picture? <_o3a_p>

Well, the editors of travel publication Condé Nast Traveller believe an epic ocean pool and rock platform fit the bill, so much so they have named Mona Vale as the 6th Best Beach in the World! <_o3a_p>

The editors 'sought out spaces that you may have to venture a little further for, but that remain incredibly beautiful and very often crowd-free' and named 34 destinations from across the globe. <_o3a_p>

Australian beaches made up 3 of the top 6, the other two being Queensland's Palm Cove at number one and Byron Bay's Wategos Beach at number 4. <_o3a_p>

Mona Vale was throned number 6 and recognised as 'the unsung hero of the famed northern beaches'. <_o3a_p>

It's technically two beaches separated by a large, sculptural rock. The main beach is a one-kilometre stretch of soft sand, perfect for walking, splashing in the rolling waves and watching the horizon for passing pods of dolphins. There's an ocean-fed lap pool with a children's pool next to it. Days on Mona Vale beach start early - joggers are here from 5am to watch the sunrise before breakfast at the Armchair Collective cafe, families start trickling in around 9am and set up umbrellas as a base camp for a day of boogie boarding, beach picnics and exploring the rockpool. The surfers are always the last to leave, forever holding on for one more wave.<_o3a_p>

As pleased as we are that out beaches are in the limelight, we're not all that surprised by the global recognition. Our coastline and beaches are iconic for good reason. <_o3a_p>
